«Samba is understood only by those who love the pleasures of life,
jazz is understood only by those who know the voices of instruments».

(Juarez Machado)

On September 5, 2014 the opening of the first large-scale St. Petersburg exhibition of the Brazilian artist Juarez Machado will take place in the main building of the Theatrical museum (the St. Petersburg State Museum of Theatre and Music, Zodchego Rossi St., 2 А). The personal exhibition of an artist widely known in Europe which has been organized by the contemporary art gallery Art Holding Tatiana Nikitina aims to acquaint Russian art amateurs with Machado's art.

Juarez Machado was born in 1941 in Joinville, Brazil. Studied at Curitiba art school. Worked as a designer, a painter, an illustrator, a sculptor, a set designer and an engraver. In 1986 the French Academy of Fine Arts provided him with a workshop in Paris. Machado is a participant of more than a hundred of personal and group exhibitions, his works are kept in many major museums of the world, and exhibited at the most prestigious auctions. Besides he is an owner of many awards and the ranks which he has received in the different countries (Brazil, France, Japan).

Both in life and art Machado is enchanted by the things that excite emotions: impetuous jazz, passionate tango, wine, French perfume. The bohemian lifestyle full of fun and pleasures which the artist represents in his paintings is a connection of South American rhythms and traditions of the European art deco. Passionate dance on Machado’s works is an embodiment of sacral essence of life which he idolizes.
